A Tender and Powerful Memoir of Love, Loss and Finding Hope.
I adore Hannah Richell’s writing, and I knew reading her memoir would be hard. But I also knew that if anyone could take something so heartbreaking and bring it to the page with such elegance, dignity and rawness, it would be her.
This is a book about sudden loss and living with grief. It is the ‘car crash’ that comes completely out of the blue and changes life as you know it.
It is both a handbook and a diary of sorts – a middle ground between the two. It doesn’t preach, and instead firmly comes from the understanding that everyone’s grief is different. And that is why this is a book I would push into anyone’s hands. Wherever they are in life, and whatever they may be experiencing, I think there is something in these pages that will speak to them and help them through.
This book is a must-read for anyone who knows loss, in whatever form that may take. Because, ultimately, this is a book about grief – but it’s about hope, too.

About the Book
Hannah Richell was lost in writing her new novel when the outside world finally broke in to tell her that her husband, Matt, had been killed in a surfing accident. This is the story of the grief journey she travelled over the first two years of loss, but it is also an account of what happens beyond those early years, when time and distance have offered some perspective and healing.
Not just a love letter to her late husband, but a love letter to the country that stole her heart, to motherhood, and to the healing power of creative endeavours. More than anything, it’s a story of recovery and hope.
