truth hurts

Poppy and Drew… Theirs was a whirlwind romance – the only catch to an otherwise seemingly perfect marriage is that they don’t ask each other about the past. Simple. Poppy has a secret, she wants to keep it buried and so this is the perfect arrangement. However she soon realises that this is a two way deal – and Drew also has secrets.

Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced review copy of this book, I have discovered the amazing author that is Rebecca Reid! This is her second novel, the first being Perfect Liars. What can be more amazing than reading an incredible book? Finding out that there is an existing book by the author that you haven’t read yet…!

Truth Hurts follows Poppy who has recently been sacked from her job as an Au Pair. It’s late at night, she’s abroad and is contemplating exactly what to do when she meets Drew. I firmly believe in not telling you exactly what happens in the book and letting you figure it out for yourself… so that’s where my synopsis will end. However from the moment Poppy and Drew meet – their lives together are almost too good to be true.

This is an intense thriller of a book – centred around whirlwind romances and the complexity of female friendships. I love books like this – Liane Moriarty, Adele Parks, Annie Ward…there are so many authors who write this style well and Rebecca Reid has gone right up there on my list to join them. It was also quite unique in that the idea behind Poppy and Drew’s marriage has never really been written about before. I did expect this to be more sinister and I was kind of pleased that it wasn’t. Also… at the end I was still rooting for the characters… Despite everything. That’s the sign of a great writer!

Truth Hurts is available to buy now on Kindle for just 99p. You can pre-order the paperback which will be released in January 2020.
