I have had the best reading week – Nancy Thayer, Elin Hilderbrand and Mary Alice Monroe have filled my mind with Summer scenes, romance, adventure, drama and a good dose of the USA. What better way to welcome Autumn?! The Rumour was published in 2015 but I hadn’t been able to get through all of Elin Hilderbrand’s books before now (still haven’t) and I love saving them for that occasional dose of Nantucket and all things Summer. This one definitely did not disappoint.

Madeline King and Grace Pancik are best friends and the envy of Nantucket for their perfect marriages, their beautiful kids, their Sunday night double dates with their devoted husbands. But this summer, something’s changed, and if there’s anything Nantucket likes better than cocktails on the beach at sunset, it’s a good rumour.

Occasionally you just need a casual beach read to bring a bit of positivity and sunshine into your life. For me, reading about the extreme drama that other adults go through helps me feel more positive about my relatively drama free life! So that being said this was an easy read – not one of Hilderbrand’s strongest but also not one of the worst. It was just mediocre and in my view the scenery and characterisation more than make up for a weak storyline when it comes to Hilderbrand’s writing. You will either love or hate the characters and I can almost guarantee they will frustrate you a lot! Nevertheless it’s the price to pay for a lazy beach read.
