Lucy Clarke’s latest book dances along the knife edge of psychological suspense into the depths of a dark and desolate wilderness within the Norwegian landscape.

The four main characters are fierce, secretive and they have their own agendas. What I loved most about them was their powerhouse unit – when it was needed the most. Despite their differences, their physical and emotional distance, the hike does bring them together in as many ways as it tears them apart…

The hike is ugly, raw and beautiful all at the same time. The slow burn of suspense and tension builds nicely through the first half with enough to give underlying fear and an edge. The isolation and wilderness of the hike clashes with the claustrophobia of not quite being alone to create a wonderfully atmospheric novel that you won’t be able to put down.

Lucy is the queen of destination thrillers and you always know that wherever she goes within the pages of her book, she’s been and seen it for herself as much as possible, minus the murdery bits. Lucy’s books come alive because of her dedication to setting the scene. And perhaps the loveliest surprise within this dark story is that she brings it all home right at the end.
