Something sweet is on its way! Return to Lampton for a new cosy fantasy…

The Tiny Magic series focuses on cosy fantasy – blending magical settings, quirky characters and emotional themes. This can easily be read as a standalone, or as the follow on from The Tiny Magic Bookshop.

While I enjoyed returning to this magical little world, I didn’t love this one quite as much as the first book (but that was about a bookshop, and they’ll always have my heart the most!) There were still lovely references to the bakery and its recipes, which helped retain that cosy, familiar feeling, but the emotional themes felt a little heavier this time around, with the bakery not feeling like a character itself – whereas the bookshop did. Nevertheless, the themes are such that many will relate and take comfort from Cam’s story and battles.

It was lovely to see some familiar faces alongside new characters, all of whom were endearing in their own ways. There’s still plenty of charm here, and I enjoyed spending more time with these characters and getting to know the newcomers.

Fans of cosy fantasy, magical bakeries, lovable characters and stories with a strong emotional element will likely enjoy this one. It’s especially worth picking up if you enjoyed the first book and want to revisit its world, although it’s worth keeping in mind that this instalment feels a little more emotionally weighty – and that’s definitely not a bad thing.

Final verdict: A charming and cosy return to a magical world filled with endearing characters, delicious bakery references and a little more emotional depth. While it didn’t quite capture the same magic for me as the first book, it was still an enjoyable read and a lovely continuation of the series and I can’t wait to read what’s next!

About the Book

Cam has spent her whole life in the quiet magic of her family’s bakery – flour-dusted, certain of her path, content. But when her brother arrives home with his fiancée, everything she thought she knew about her place in the bakery – and in her family – begins to crumble.

Convinced she’s being edged out of her own dream, Cam finds herself facing an impossible question: if she can’t have the life she always wanted, what can she do? Setting up her own tattoo stall at the summer fayre feels like the answer – she’s always been proud of the beautiful art on her skin, after all – but leaving her mark on strangers terrifies her in a way that baking never has.

The more Cam chases this new path, the more she suspects she’s running in the wrong direction entirely. She must figure out who she really is: not who her parents need her to be, not who Lampton expects, but someone altogether more herself.

About The Author

August Bloom writes magical novels from her cosy writing studio in Gloucestershire. She devours gentle fantasy stories alongside cinnamon buns and loves the cooler autumn months when she can curl up under a blanket with a good book. Her co-writer is a chronically clumsy Labrador who she explores the countryside with.
