Firstly, if this hasn’t happened to Kirsty Greenwood in some way, shape, or form, then I’m sorely disappointed – because what a love story! What’s more, she may just have written the perfect cure for writer’s block. Want to know the secret? You’ll have to read the book…
All jokes aside, my wish for this story to be real aside, the magical realism–romance blend is absolutely spot on and exactly what any book lover and fan of both genres hopes to find. Kirsty truly is the queen of writing from the heart and of creating beautifully flawed characters, and Gertie is one of her very best.
She moves between two universes with complete ease, and yes, there are a couple of delightful little “Easter egg” nods to characters from The Love of My Afterlife. They’re subtle enough to feel special and charming, yet the story stands firmly on its own. You know those moments – “Hey, I know her!” and who knew the burger would re-emerge!
This book is a love letter to writing, reading, libraries, books, wallflowers, and cowboys. It’s full of Kirsty’s trademark humour, heartfelt emotion, and, above all, her enduring love of love.

About the Book
Gertie Bickerstaff writes happily-ever-afters for a living… or she did, until her own love life fell apart. Now her ex is thriving, her deadline is looming, and she can’t write a single word.
The last thing Gertie needs is more drama—like waking up to find a confused and rugged cowboy on her sofa. And not just any cowboy, but River Oakley, the villain from her unfinished novel. Somehow very real… and very shirtless.
River wants to go home. Gertie wants her life back. So they strike a deal: he’ll use his cunning ways to help her win back her ex, she’ll finish the novel, and surely, he’ll return to whatever world he rode in from.
But as River Oakley proves to be so much more than just the bad guy, Gertie has to choose: the ending she thought she wanted… or the plot twist she never saw coming.
About The Author
Kirsty Greenwood is a best selling author of funny, fearless romantic comedies about extraordinary love. When she’s not writing books she composes musicals and explores London where she lives with her husband.
