Meet Me in Malta is part of the Sublime Retreats Romances series and can be read as a standalone, perfect for readers who enjoy feel-good romance, family dynamics, and second chances later in life. With thanks to Dawn for her review.
I always know what I’m going to get with a Joy Skye book, and this one didn’t disappoint. It was such an easy, enjoyable read with a beautiful setting (the villa in particular just felt so vivid) and characters I quickly became invested in.
Meet Me in Malta is another Sublime Retreats Romance novel that tells the story of Belinda, a lady approaching 50 whose marriage has just ended. To celebrate her birthday, she decides to escape to Malta to a high-end villa with her best friend Carla. Carla was a scream! She dominated every page she was on and her one-liners were quite literally brilliant! She was rather out spoken and not afraid to stir the pot, so a very funny character and my favourite one in the book.
Belinda wants to escape it all and hopes that a sun-drenched holiday will do the trick. What she doesn’t bank on is the very handsome Noah – a blast from her past, will be her very own private chef at the villa. As you can imagine, sparks fly and whilst they both have their own conflicting feelings, (followed via their different viewpoints in each chapter) I found myself willing them together! It is a second-chance love story (for both parties) and I enjoyed that the characters were closer to my age group than my sons!
At times I found myself a little frustrated with the lack of communication between them and wished they would just talk to each other so they could clear up the misconceptions that arose time and time again!
Overall, this felt like a comforting, escapist read. The setting, the characters and the romance all came together to create a story I genuinely enjoyed getting lost in, and I closed the book feeling content. A perfect summer read.

About the Book
One birthday. One island escape. One second chance she never expected.
On the eve of her fiftieth birthday, Belinda McGuire’s life implodes when her marriage ends and her carefully built future disappears overnight. Rather than endure sympathy and small talk back home, she escapes to a historic villa in Valletta, Malta, hoping sun, space, and time will help her breathe again.
She doesn’t expect the villa’s chef to be Noah, her childhood neighbor and first love, now older, steadier, and impossible to ignore. As shared memories resurface over Mediterranean meals, Belinda begins to imagine a life that looks nothing like the one she lost.
But when her grown children, estranged sister, and inconvenient ex-husband arrive, old wounds and misunderstandings threaten to derail everything. Caught between the past she survived and the future she might still claim, Belinda must decide whether Malta is simply an escape, or the place where her life truly begins again.
