What a book! If you’re looking for a book club choice, particularly one to bond with fellow females over and in a safe space to discuss your ethical dilemmas, then this is the one for you! Three very different women are thrown together because of one very irritating and dangerous man, and Julie Cohen puts them through a brilliantly shocking set of circumstances that will really have you thinking, ‘What would I do?’

It’s full of dark humour, moments that will have you giggling to yourself and others that will have you completely shocked. It’s fiction, of course, but there are elements of reality and it’s sobering to realise this as the story progresses. Much of what we already know is captured within the pages but written in a very entertaining way in Julie’s beautiful contemporary writing style.

Sisterhood, empowerment, vulnerabilities, starting over, the themes within this book felt endless but so well done with attention given equally to them all. It’s a story that will have you invested, cheering the three main characters on, and wanting more by the end too.

About the Book

Making new friends can be murder…

Marina gave up her career as a chef to raise her children, but her divorce has left her harried, lonely, and the black sheep of her family. It’s also left her in dire financial straits.

Opal is a post-menopausal fitness guru who spends her days chasing likes and followers in an industry that worships youth. Even her glossy online persona can’t mask her checkered past.

Lilah is a shy and optimistic librarian who spends her days tending to the stacks, until she wins an unbelievable sum in the lottery. With a growing bank account and a dashing fiancé, life seems too good to be true—and it just might be.

These three women have nothing in common except for one the man who’s been lying to them all . . . and who they are now holding hostage in Marina’s basement. As this shared secret brings them closer together, other, deadlier problems come crashing into their lives. Can they put their differences aside to save themselves—and each other?
