Christmas Fling has all the hallmarks of a fabulous Lindsey Kelk novel, humour, THE best characters and a wonderfully wintery and festive setting. Like several of the christmas books I’ve read this year, Lindsey has mastered the art of leaning in to the whimsical without it muffling the story – the delivery of the novel consistently was equal parts romantic and self-reflective.
There are tropes we know and love and ones that are less often used, it was great to see a female lead character in a powerful role, fiction reflecting what actually can and does happen in the world! She was also a really likeable character, perfectly flawed, quick with a comeback emotionally deep. The beat of the romance was steady, not rushed, and the dialogue was snappy and easy to flow with.
There are plenty of modern day references, something I love about a book and often something that Authors are reluctant to do for fear of ‘dating’ their novel. However many of us will relate to the little bits and pieces that Lindsey weaves in for familiarity, and when we come to re-read this thirty years from now there will be a brilliant sense of nostalgia! Will the M & S Christmas Sandwich still be going?!
For a feel-good romance, with emotional depth, a bit of spice, humour and a great setting, this is the book to choose this Winter.
I only pick up on editing when there’s an unusual amount of typos and errors and it has to be said that this was the only downfall of the book, and an issue that should have been caught before publication. There were several moments of inconsistency, incorrect words and typos enough to cause me to go back and re-read to try and make sense of things. My copy was a (published) e-book not an early copy.

About the Book
Laura and Callum have met exactly three times – once at a mutual friend’s wedding (Laura doesn’t remember), once at a baby shower (Callum doesn’t remember) and once right now – when Laura lets herself into his flat to find him exiting the shower completely naked (they both remember).
When Callum’s parents walk in and mistake Laura for his mystery girlfriend, Laura has no choice but to play along, accepting their invitation to spend Christmas at home in the Scottish Highlands. But then Laura’s best friends show up pretending to be her family, and Callum’s ex is invited, and as Laura gets closer to Callum, she can’t tell if the increasingly sizzling chemistry between them is real or just a very convincing part of the act…
