So, full disclosure, I wasn’t keen on this at first, The Project starts at a house party where there are drugs available, I’m up for a good party but really not a fan of drug use so I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy this book, but the drug use is occasional and there seems to be a theme of things going wrong when they are taken, so maybe it’s meant to be a lesson in not doing drugs!
The Project is based around Maya and Daisy who, having agreed that the few good men are already taken, decide to try to retrain James, the most inappropriate ‘lads lad’ in their group who Daisy has just had a rather intoxicated one night stand with.
There are some brilliantly entertaining, awkward scenes as part of Daisy and Maya’s project, although it doesn’t really feel like the main storyline, I felt like The Project was just the background for a much deeper story, one of personal growth, independence and confidence, and that side of the book I really enjoyed, so on the whole a good read but probably aimed at people nearer the protagonists age (26) than I am, and yes I do think 26 is a bit young to have written off the whole male population!
