Love on Lake Como is the latest instalment in the “Sublime Retreats Romances” series by Joy Skye; a collection of feel-good, escapist romance stories set in dreamy European holiday destinations. Each book follows different characters (so they can be read in any order) and are loosely connected through a luxury travel company called (you guessed it) “Sublime Retreats”.
As with all Joy Skye books, it really was an easy read with gorgeous characters! Love on Lake Como follows Indie Summer as she relocates to work in the luxurious Villa Adeste with her twin sister Rose, when she needs time out for various reasons. From page 1, I was hooked and it only took until page 25 for the love interest (the handsome and brooding Marco) to be introduced, which I appreciated. Joy’s books are little over 200 pages so perfect as a quick read and the beauty of them is that she gets straight to the point, so you become invested immediately. The setting was stunning, as I have come to expect with these books and the romance quite literally jumped off the page and into my heart. I actually think I fell in love with both Indie and Marco and was willing them to get together. There are lots of likeable characters in the book and I particular liked one of the guests of the villa – the flamboyant and excitable Cheryl who is there with her husband celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. She made me laugh out loud several times!
Along the way, the writing is such that you feel you really get to know the characters and she does this with such ease, making me feel all warm inside. A heartwarming and uplifting story with themes of second-chance at love, fresh starts and strong emotional connections (rather than spice-heavy). This is perfect to pack in your case or as a holiday escape in book form.

Joy Skye lives on the seductive island of Corfu with her four dogs and an embarrassing number of cats. Her many years working in the tourist industry on this sunny island and her love of all things literary inspired her first romantic comedy, Corfu Capers and she has been writing ever since. She loves to cook, dance and drink wine, usually at the same time, and is currently working on her next book, due to be released later this year.
