This is the story of a loveable mixed breed dog named Burke who, shortly after he is born, misunderstands something his mother tells him, leading him to believe that he – like all other dogs – is immortal. Only, as we know, that’s not true. In fact, in a cruel twist of fate, dogs tend to lead much shorter lives than their human counterparts. So, what happens when a dog like Burke finds out that he is not immortal as he was first led to believe?
It sends him on a journey to understand the power of hope, of joy, and the heavy weight of grief. The book follows Burke as he moves from one home to another, trying to find a place to belong. And when he finally does, he is given the ultimate task: find his person, someone to love before Burke expires from this Earth.
(Burke, as it turns out, is a bit of a drama queen.)
