About The Book
After millennia, mammoths have returned, brought back by scientists to help combat climate change.
Ash Grimes, born and raised at the Arctic research centre responsible, dreams of becoming a Mammoth Rider, just like her dad. But mammoths are wild animals and it isn’t easy to earn their trust.
So when Ash meets a white mammoth calf, the first of its kind, she’s determined to do anything to protect her new friend. With a trophy hunter threatening the safety of the herd, Ash, along with best friends Ruby and Jack, must race across the tundra to save their families, the rare calf, and the very future of the mammoths.
About The Author
SJ Poyton, also known as Sally, has been making up stories since she was a child, recording them in pictures and badly spelt wobbly words (she has dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dyspraxia). Her very first book was a comic about a bee.
She has always been fascinated by animals and conservation, and grew up surrounded by fauna, as her family kept a small menagerie with everything from pigeons to iguanas. Once, she even smuggled her pet parrot, Baby, into school for a debate about deforestation, to show what was at stake when habitats are lost. Of course – she won!
Sally is now a writer and illustrator. In her spare time she likes to dig up Mammoths on palaeontology digs. One day, she hopes to smuggle a mammoth into a school visit – though getting it through the doors might be a challenge!
